A hands-on intensive in one of Ayurveda’s most versatile and clinically powerful herbal treatments.
With Dylan Smith | Vital Veda
Taught internationally, next date coming soon
Pinda Sveda, also known as Patra Poultice or Kizhi in the South Indian tradition, is a classical Ayurvedic Svedana (sweating/heat) therapy. Fresh medicinal leaves are tied into cloth boluses, heated in medicated oil, and applied rhythmically to the body in a deeply penetrating treatment.
As a Swedana therapy, Pinda Sveda is designed to integrate with and amplify other treatments. It works powerfully alongside Abhyanga, external Bastis, and other bodywork, opening channels, softening tissues, and driving medicinal properties deeper into the body. This integration is what makes it one of the most clinically versatile tools an Ayurvedic practitioner can offer.
Its applications are wide: joint and muscle pain, stiffness, neuromuscular conditions, post-injury recovery, chronic fatigue, and deep nervous system support.

At the heart of this workshop is a principle that sits at the centre of classical Ayurveda: the most potent medicine is the one that grows where you live.
Ayurveda teaches that local and seasonal herbs, native plants, introduced species, weeds, invasive plants, and classical Ayurvedic herbs growing outside India, carry the intelligence of the land, climate, and season in which they grow. Classical Ayurvedic herbs are found growing in many regions worldwide, and local plants often address the precise imbalances presenting in that climate and bioregion.
In this workshop, we go out to forage before we prepare. You will learn to identify, harvest, and work with what is available in your environment, transforming local plants into potent medicinal boluses.
The Ayurvedic principles behind Pinda Sveda, Svedana, heat therapies, and how this treatment fits within a classical sequence. Integration with Abhyanga, external Bastis, and other bodywork.
Identifying local medicinal plants for Pinda Sveda. Native, introduced, and classical Ayurvedic herbs in your region. Sustainable harvesting and seasonal availability.
Preparing leaves, constructing the bolus, selecting medicated oils. Which herbs to use for which conditions and constitutions.
Full hands-on practice: temperature, rhythm, pressure, directional strokes, timing, reading client response. Practical sessions giving and receiving the treatment.
This Pinda Sveda workshop is open to Ayurvedic practitioners and students, massage therapists, yoga teachers, and other health professionals seeking to deepen their hands-on treatment toolkit.
Graduates of the Vital Veda Abhyanga Course will find this a natural and powerful next step: Pinda Sveda builds directly on Abhyanga skills and integrates seamlessly into an Abhyanga session. Dylan teaches this workshop internationally, with participants travelling from multiple countries to attend.
